2019 Snowflake Art Project 5th annual for kids
Thank you for bringing winter cheer to our community!

The 5th annual Snowflake Art Project has wrapped up for another year. Thank you to all the kids and families who made such unique snowflakes together for the recent annual Snowflake Art Project. You’ll be able to see the snowflakes displayed from Dec 17 – Jan 4 in the window of Better Off Duds, 510A 33rd Street West.

CONGRATULATIONS to Desmond B, whose name was chosen in the random draw for kids in Hudson Bay Park, Mayfair and Kelsey Woodlawn.

The best part about today was delivering the prize to Desmond after school – thank you to Lily Yip at the Travelodge Hotel for providing a 1-night stay as a prize.

It was the 5th year for the volunteer Community Association to hold the Snowflake Art Project for kids in our 3 neighbourhoods. Thank you to staff at Mayfair Library for once again providing a friendly place for kids to drop off their snowflakes and even make snowflakes while at the library. Thank you you to Nicola at Better Off Duds for displaying the snowflake art for the kids.

We really appreciate the ongoing support from our community library and local businesses.

AGM (annual general meeting) News

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT from the AGM (annual general meeting) on October 16, 2019.

It was a very good Wednesday evening.

Our wish list turned into one big checklist!

1) All volunteer positions were filled for the Community Association non-profit organization in your neighbourhood at the annual general meeting this evening. Most board members are staying on for another year either in the same position or are in a different role, and we were fortunate to have 3 new members join the board.

2) We were treated to a very cozy spot to have our annual general meeting at Carpenter’s Church – thank you for sharing your space with us.

3) We got to sample tasty coffee from Back To Beans on 33rd Street West during the meeting.

4) Enjoyed some cookies and lemon square from board members and their partners.

5) Were treated to a slideshow of the past year’s events and accomplishments in the community (most notably the community rink demolition and new rink built by volunteers and the first-ever neighbourhood garden tour).

6) Had a random draw for everyone who attended for a chance to win some homemade fudge.

7) Our annual budget for events and programs is set and it is going to be a good year!

Thank you to returning volunteer board members:
Diane, Janet, Dave, Shelley, Margaret, Kaela, Mike, Melissa and Suzanne. And a warm welcome and big thank you to new members Jamie, Adam and Natalie.

We also have community resident, Evan, helping us get the website updated and running more smoothly. Long-time community volunteer, Matt, will continue to maintain the community’s outdoor rink. We really appreciate them and they are making a big difference with their help.

Send the community association email at if you have any questions or want information on how get involved in helping out this year. We are always looking for new volunteers and a position as Member At Large is a great place to start out, helping when you can in big or small ways.

NEXT MEETING: Wed. Oct 30 at 6:30 pm
The next regular monthly meeting will be Wednesday, October 30th at 6:30 pm in the staff room of Henry Kelsey School, 16 Valens Drive. Come on out if you’d like to find out more about what is coming up in the community this year, or test the waters to see if you might like to join as a member-at-large (become an elected board member, attend monthly meetings and help out when you can, bring up new ideas if you want to, suggest different ways to do things we’re already doing, etc).

Annual General Meeting for Community Association

Your non-profit Community Association’s AGM (Annual General Meeting) will be on Wednesday, October 16 at 6:30 pm.

THE AGM IS OPEN TO ALL RESIDENTS in Hudson Bay Park, Mayfair and Kelsey Woodlawn, and children and youth are very welcome to attend as well.

If you are interested in helping build up your community and helping make it a welcoming place for residents of all ages and backgrounds to live, work and play, please consider volunteering in some capacity for the 2019-2020 year. If you’re unable to commit to an actual position and are unable to meet once a month with other board members, you can always help at one of the community events or offer assistance when you can.

DO YOU HAVE A NEW IDEA FOR AN EVENT OR PROGRAM IN YOUR COMMUNITY? Join the board or attend monthly meetings and help lead change to make things happen; new people are always needed to bring new ideas and help improve or tweak events/programs already in place. You don’t need to have experience, just an abiliity to cooperate with others in the group and a desire to help get something new started.

HELP MAKE YOUR COMMUNITY STRONGER AND BETTER FOR EVERYONE LIVING IN IT – be part of the Community Association and help bring events, programs, and other community-building ideas into our Hudson Bay Park, Mayfair and Kelsey-Woodlawn community.

NOTE: We meet on the last Wednesday of every month at 6:30 – 8 or 8:30 pm except during June and July. Board members are expected to attend the meetings, and any residents who live in Hudson Bay Park, Mayfair or Kelsey-Woodlawn are welcome to attend.

CAN”T MAKE IT TO THE AGM but want to join up to help in the community? Email the Community Association at for more information or to express your interest in joining or helping out in some capacity.

The 6th annual Community Clean-up Event: Saturday, May 25 9:45 am – noon

It’s almost that time of year again! The annual Community Clean-Up Event is in its 6th year and our numbers are always growing. This year it will happen on Saturday, May 25th, 9:45 am – 1 pm. Please arrive at 9:45 am to sign in since we need to know how many people will need lunch.

It’s an all-ages-friendly community event that brings so much to our neighbourhood: you can support your community, get some fresh air and exercise, share some food, make new acquaintances and reconnect with people you know, all while helping welcome spring to the community! Come alone or bring friends and family – everyone is welcome.

* As a volunteer-run event organized by the Hudson Bay Park, Mayfair & Kelsey-Woodlawn Community Association volunteer board, volunteers from the community are needed to help clean up in the park, surrounding alleys and streets.

Some things to think about bringing:
– Sunscreen
– Hats to protect from sun
– Filled water bottle from home
– Your own snacks if you want to eat while you walk
– A wagon for either pulling little kids or carrying bags of garbage (and kids love to help pull the wagon of course!)
– A little blanket is nice to sit on during lunch
– Tongs are handy for picking up garbage stuck in bushes

* Washrooms will be open
* Drinking water will be provided at lunch – bring your own filled water bottles from home
* Event will still go on in cool, cloudy, or lightly rainy weather – dress for the weather and enjoy the day 🙂

Information can also be found on the community’s facebook page:

Annual Community-wide Garage Sale

COMMUNITY garage-sale-1
The annual Community-wide Garage Sale will be on Saturday, June 8 this year. People having a sale should advertise their address ahead of time.  Also advertise the time of your sale if it differs from the event page listed time of 8 am – 4 pm, and any other information possible.
TIPS: Attaching balloons to a vehicle parked in front of your house helps drivers notice your sale. You can also advertise your sale on the kijiji site and other online pages you are a member of.
If you would like your address, sale time, and sale details added to the COMMUNITY GARAGE SALE MAP, which will then be easily available to anyone in the city who wants to search for neighbourhood sales online, send a message to the Community Association at with your details (address, time, brief description if items, etc) and it will be added to the map.  The map will be shared on social media before and on the date of the garage sale.
